11/08/07 HTML and Table Review

OBJECTIVE:

  1. Students will reflect on time management and work habits.
  2. Students will create a "table" using HTML code. Student will apply code to their personal website.

TELL ME ABOUT IT:

  1. If you dont have Internet Access at home, print out the HTML code from webmonkey.com. (print to lab #4).
  2. Create the basic HTML structure on notepad, save it and name it "tablepractice.html", print it out, show it to me as your EXIT SLIP.
  3. Email me the answer to the following questions: DO YOU FEEL YOU ARE USING YOUR TIME WISELY WHEN WORKING ON PROJECTS FOR THIS CLASS? Are you coming into class straight to work? How can you improve your work habits? explain your answers in complete sentences.

IN CLASS ACTIVITIES:

IN CLASS ACTIVITIES:

  1. create a sketch for your home page. You will turn it in to the sub, if you want to keep a copy, make sure you make a second one. I want a very detailed sketch, tell me the colors your plan to use, the images, etc... The more detail it is, the better of a website you can create. (30 minutes)
  2. Create a outline for your website. Remember the activity we did in class, create the outline of the html code. (20 minutes )
  3. Create two buttons for your website "home" and "college". You can go to http://www.buttongenerator.com/ to create one or you can create one using fireworks. ( 20 minutes )
  4. After you are done creating the buttons you can start coding your "home" page. (20 minutes)

DESIGN ELEMENTS and HTML

Hi Class!!! I hope you had a great weekend!! As for me, i had a long weekend. I am still having a long weekend. I am at a conference learning more about technology. YES RAUL I AM PUTTING THIS UP AT 1:20 AM. ENRIQUE PLEASE TAKE A SEAT!!! :- )

Today Activities are to download the following documents and save them to your flash drive. After you are done with both documents please send them to me. Please read everything in the documents carefully. Some of the materials will become part of a test that we will have on THURSDAY. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE MATERIAL ON BOTH DOCUMENTS.

If you are done early with both projects. Please continue working on the HTML document that you started last week. Try to add a list and a small paragraph about your hero.

PRACTICING WITH HTML

Today you will create your first HTML webpage. READ THE ENTIRE SECTION OF THIS POSTING BEFORE YOU GO TO TECH TRAIN.

Click on Tech Train after you have read the posting.

Read the instructions on the website and start creating your first HTML web page. Make sure you read through out the entire page before you start doing the project. The project is not hard is just a lot of work. I will be helping you guys individually but i want you to start trying it out for yourself first. IF YOU NEED TOO, TAKE SQ3R NOTES.

Use the following guidelines to name the title and heading of your page.

1. Title of webpage "name_First Page"
2. Heading 1 " My Hero"
3. Heading 2 " My Goal"
4. Heading 3 " My Culture"

Do not worry about list. We will be doing that later. BE READY TO DISCUSS HTML WITH THE CLASS.

REVISING YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT

START WORKING ON PEER REVIEWS:
  1. Make sure you have a partner. Have him/her review your personal statement and make track changes to it. Make sure you review their personal statement.
  2. Once you are done with your partners peer review, save it as "peer review by name"
  3. Once you receive your personal statement back from your partner, save it twice once as " track changes by partner name" and second save it as "accepted changes". Make sure you have two copies. You will only accept changes on one of the documents.
  4. Accept changes on the "accepted changes " document.
  5. Continue working on personal statements.

10/1/07 FIRST DRAFT IS DUE

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!
  1. Choose a partner among your group members. You will work together to review each others first draft. He/She will work with you through out the entire project.
  2. With your partner discuss the following: a.) what was the hardest about writing the first draft? b.) how was it different from writing other essays? and c.) How can you improve your first draft?
  3. Email his/her name and a summary of your partners responses.

IN CLASS ACTIVITY!!

  1. Start typing your first draft on word. If you already have it typed, revise your first draft before you give it to your partner. name your first draft "name First Draft".
  2. Remember to read their essay critically. If the essay does not keep your attention, than it might be wise for him/her to keep working on it.
  3. Use track changes to give your partner suggestions on how to make it better. Look out for the thesis, topic sentences, 5 paragraphs, incomplete sentences, misspelled words, organization and any other writing mistakes.
  4. The Document with the track changes that you are working on for your partner should be name "edited by name".

  1. You will learn how to create a snap shot using Adobe Acrobat. You will use the snap shot as part of your digital portfolio.
THE DIGITAL PORTFOLIO WILL BE DUE ON MONDAY 8TH, 2007: you will create one word document with a interactive table of contents.

1. Download form 2 of the application package from the USC website.
2. Save the pdf file to your flash drive (if you don't know how to save it, ask your neighbor).
3. Take turns reading the form out loud with the members of your group.
